Demun Field Trip Photos

We had beautiful weather for our walking field trip. Thank you to the parents who helped make our trip safe and fun. We walked to the log cabin and got a tour inside. We also got to play on the playground at Demun Park!

Long Ago and Today Toys

Toys of Yesteryear that are still around today was the topic of discussion in Library today. Mr. Bober showed toy commercials from Mr. Potato Head, Hotwheels Car Wash and Chatty Cathy Doll.

The original Mr. Potato Head did not come with a potato. You had to use a real potato!

Chatty Cathy had only 11 sayings. The talking Barbie had 100,000!

The matchbox toy car wash was a toy that I had as a kid.  It was so fun.

DeMun Avenue Walking Field Trip

DeMun Avenue Walking Field Trip

When we return from spring break, our class completes our study of Long Ago and Today by taking a look at our school neighborhood. We will compare photos of the old DeMun School and Captain. We learn about the street car line that ran down the middle of DeMun Avenue.  Students use a copy of an old fire department map of DeMun to locate building from the 1950’s and today.

DeMun Avenue Walking Field Trip
Friday, March 27
2:30 – 3:15
5 chaperones needed

Parent chaperones are needed for the DeMun Avenue map experience to accompany a small group of children. Groups walk along the DeMun shops and label a map with a few shops as they look now.  The map shows how the same building was used long ago.  Next we walk to Concordia Seminary to look at the log cabin. Finally, if the weather is nice, we end at the DeMun playground to let the children play for a few minutes before returning to school.

Please let me know if you can chaperone our trip.
Thanks
Jeni Goode

Conferences

I really enjoyed talking with you and your child this week. It is amazing to see how much growth the children have made this year. They are becoming voracious readers and confident writers. Please enjoy your Spring Break and I will see you all on Monday, March 24th.

Science Lab

This week the students worked in the Science Lab with Mrs. Hwande. They are learning about Solids, Liquids and Gases. They observed the properties of solids and sorted by characteristics. Then they made towers with solid objects.

Emery has her great great grandmas play stove from the doll house.

Levi has an old Brownie camera from his dad.

Alena has an old view finder for pictures from her mom.

Rafael has an old cassette tape of Depeche Mode from his dad.
Kennedy brought in her great grandpa's surgery bag full of old tools.
Alyssa brought in her great grandpa's jewelry box that he made for his wife.
Ella brought in an old water can and book from her grandma.
Charlie brought in an old handmade dress and music box.
Sam made in an old ladies draw-string purse from his grandma.
Joseph has an old Raggedy Andy from his dad and an old phone from his grandma.

Janelle has an old slate and books from her great grandma.
