Partner Reading

This semester we are Partner Reading during our morning rotations. We love being able to share our thoughts on books and read with one another. We are helping each other figure out hard words and think deeply about the story.

Balloon Rockets

Today in Science we learned how air can push on objects. We used a large ziplock bag, a straw and some string to make our device for moving the air. We filled up a balloon with a hand pump and put it in the ziplock bag. Wham, the balloon pushed the bag across the string as the air was released!

Great Opportunities

As we begin week two of the 2014 school year I wanted to re-share opportunities for your student and you!

1) Read to Succeed: A note was sent home last week with information about this great opportunity. In a nutshell this is a program to reward students for reading outside of school. It will last 8 weeks (Jan. 6th-Feb. 26th). Students must read for 6 whole hours (360 minutes), log their reading, turn it into Mr. Bober, and then enjoy Six Flags! Last week we extended the length of time for independent reading and the students were ready! I am sure they can get those six hours in no time. Please let me know how I can support you!

2) Shay Day Pet Supply Drive:  Shay was a support dog that served Captain for over 14 years. To honor his dedication to the school we are having a pet food/supply drive from January 13th to January 27th. All donations will go to the Bi-State Food Pantry!

Snow Day, Monday January 6

With a record 10.9 inches of snow in one day, St. Louis was blanketed. Captain First Grade students decided to have fun outside on their snow day.
