Finished Pumpkins

We finished craving our pumpkins. Some of the students put their headphones on the pumpkins for fun. Too cute. During writing time we turn off the overhead lights and turn on the lights in the pumpkins. The kids love it!!

Pumpkin Carving

Today we did the first steps of craving our pumpkins. Some of the children had never scooped out the seeds of a pumpkin. Slimy, gross, and wet were some of the words they used to describe how the inside of a pumpkin feels. When they had cleaned out the whole pumpkin, they sorted the seeds into groups of 10 and counted.  406, 412 and 359 were just some of the total number of seeds these pie pumpkins had in them!!!

Assembly

Today we got to see the Second Grade's Patriotic Program.
They recited poems, sang songs, and told us about our country.

Q- Bear and Mrs. Taylor

Today Mrs. Taylor, school counselor, and Q-Bear came to our classroom. They do lessons once a month on feelings, school norms and safety.
Mrs. Taylor talking to the students about feelings.

Q-Bear is a bear you can ask questions, whisper secrets to or hug on a rough day.

How To Books and Writing

We have started to write How To pieces in writing workshop.  The children have chosen to write serious and funny How To stories. Some wrote how to... tie shoes, climb the monkey bars, or ride a horse. Others have chosen to write how to.... take a nap, tease a sister or mess up a room.  Today we looked at How to Books and followed the directions to make pop-up cards.

McDuff Books

We have been reading McDuff, dog books by Rosemary Wells in Reading Workshop. We are enjoying the stories and making connections.  Link and his dad recently got to see Mrs. Goode's dog, Rosie, who looks like McDuff.

ZOO ZOO ZOO

What a wonderful day at the zoo! Thank you to all the parent helpers who made this a safe and fun learning experience. The students investigated the Insectarium and other parts of the Zoo.
This butterfly looks like the ones we have in our classroom.

We found pumpkins all over the Zoo.

Guinea pigs!!

Many children were brave enough to touch the goats.
